| Standard | Use the lowest effective dose for the patient. The recommended initial dose is 1 mg, taken immediately before bedtime, with at least 7 to 8 hours remaining before the planned time of awakening. The dose may be increased if clinically indicated, to a maximum of 3 mg. For geriatric or debilitated patients, the dose should not exceed 2 mg. For patients with severe hepatic impairment or those taking potent CYP3A4 inhibitors, the dose should not exceed 2 mg. Do not take with or immediately after a meal, as food can significantly decrease the absorption and delay the time to peak concentration. Higher doses (2 mg or 3 mg) may increase the risk of next-day impairment. |

Common Side Effects
- Common side effects include taste abnormalities, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, memory loss, hallucinations, nightmares, confusion, and paradoxical effects (the opposite effect of the drug).
- Other potential adverse reactions include complex sleep behaviors, CNS depressant effects and next-day impairment, abnormal thinking and behavioral changes, severe anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions, and withdrawal effects.
Serious Warnings
- Black Box Warning: Complex sleep behaviors, including sleepwalking, sleep-driving, and engaging in other activities while not fully awake, have been reported with eszopiclone. Some of these events have resulted in serious injuries and death. Eszopiclone is contraindicated in patients who have experienced complex sleep behaviors after taking it.
- Caution is advised regarding CNS depressant effects and next-day impairment, including the risk of impaired driving and skilled tasks.

- Withdrawal effects may occur upon discontinuation, especially after prolonged use.
- Pregnancy risk cannot be ruled out, hence caution is advised, and the medicine is contraindicated in lactating mothers.
- Alcohol consumption should be avoided when taking this medicine due to enhanced CNS depressant effects.
- Caution is advised for patients with a history of psychiatric illness, drug abuse, muscle weakness, and elderly patients.
- Prolonged use should be avoided.
- Do not drive or operate heavy machinery the next day as this medicine may affect performance.
